SYTYCD - Top 18 Performances and Results

Dancers:Noelle and Russell
Dance:
Hip Hop by Jamal Sims to Move Shake Drop Remix
Judges’ Thoughts
: (A) You guys did really really well. Fast doesn’t mean big. (M) For me, Russell, you won the match. You did a really good job. (N) It was so fast you didn’t quite get a hold of it.
Amanda’s Thoughts:
While I enjoyed the routine, I agree with the judges. I felt the routine was a bit fast and they never got caught up or to the right place. I didn’t much care for the use of the tennis racket either? I think they could have done better without it. I think Russell did great though. I just love him and I think he’s an amazing dancer – not only in his own style – but in other styles. Noelle pulled her own weight I think but not hard enough. She might be in trouble depending on what else we see tonight.

Dancers:Ashleigh and Jakob
Dance:Viennese Waltz with Tony and Melanie to At Last by Etta James
Judges’ Thoughts:(A)You guys can still do no wrong in my book. (M)Jakob, it’s nice to know you aren’t perfect. The dancing could have been better. Use your knees and hips. Ashleigh, I think you are wonderful. You were extremely smooth. (N) Jakob your lines are fantastic. Ashleigh, be careful with your arms. Very strong routine.
Amanda’s Thoughts: Well, first off I am not a big Ashleigh fan but after this routine – she is growing on me. And Jakob, well he’s just great. Watching him leap like that … amazing. He is a good partner as well. I think this is a good partnership and can’t wait to see what they do next.

Dancers:Bianca and Victor
Dance:Broadway by Tyce to Maybe God Is Trying To Tell You Something from The Color Purple
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) It is very important as a dancer to be studied. You danced it well but that was not the point of this dance. I was overly aware of your dancing but I wanted to see you ‘lose it.’ (OK, Adam…) (M) It was good. It didn’t really go there. I wanted a lot more. (N) The characters weren’t strong enough. You should have taken it somewhere else.
Amanda’s Thoughts: Yeah, this was a tough routine in my eyes for them to pull off. First of all, I didn’t much care for the choreography … or lack thereof in my opinion. It seemed king of all over the place and didn’t even get together for me.

Dancers:Mollee and Nathan
Dance:Bollywood by Nakul
Judges’ Thoughts: (A)You are such an exciting couple. Mollee you are coming into your own. (he didn’t mention Nathan! grr..) (M) It just kept getting better. Outstanding.(she didn’t mention Nathan, either.) (N) It was great. Mollee you are maturing. Nathan…tremendous stuff. Teriffic!
Amanda’s Thoughts: O.M.G. … That Nathan is pure hotness! I know he is young but holy crapolie!! Okay, back to the routine …. Awesome!! Loved everything about it. Loved how the style was changed up a bit to reflect the storyline and props. I thought it was great and well executed by both of them. For being so young and getting such a difficult dance – they rocked it out!! I’m really liking these two for the Top 10.

Dancers: Channing and Phillip
Dance:Samba by Tony and Melanie to Maracatu Funk
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) I could see you guys struggling. I saw some really wonderful interactions. (M) You were struggling. I needed to feel the party and celebrations. Phillip your feet are sloppy. You weren’t really helping Channing. Channing you were coming to life out there. Phillip you let her down. (N) The chemistry didn’t work for me. Tough one for you this week.
Amanda’s Thoughts: Wow … they were given a very difficult routine, to which I don’t think was quite fair. Taking at least one of those big lifts out of there would have helped with their stress level and allowed them to showcase their dancing a bit more. I really don’t think that was fair. I mean, other than the difficulty with those lifts and such, it was a good routine. Probably be put in the bottom though.

Dancers:Karen and Kevin
Dance:Hip Hop by Tabitha and Napoleon (love!) to Ice Cream Paint Job by Dorrough
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) Karen.. (he falls out of his chair) Karen you tore that up! Kevin you did great but I expected it. (M) It was hot for sure! Miss thang you are still on the hot tamale train! Kevin you are phenomenal. He’s on the hot tamale train! (N) Karen moves parts of her body that I didn’t know could move.
Amanda’s Thoughts: Loved it!! Just love Kevin and Karen is great too. I wasn’t so sure at first but she seems really sincere and is really good at what she does. Kevin just seems great all around – personality and dance. I think it’s a great partnership that will probably carry them to at least the Top 10.

Dancers:Kathryn and Legacy
Dance:Contemporary by Stacey Tookey to 2 Steps Away by Patti LaBelle
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) There are no words to say how proud I am of you, Legacy. You turned a corner. You were dancing. I am so proud of both of you! (M) It brings the hair up on my arms to see you grow up there, Legacy. I don’t remember someone growing as fast as you. Kathryn you just keep nailing it every week. Nice job. (N) Legacy you have grown. Kathryn, you are going to be around for a long time to come. Very beautiful
Amanda’s Thoughts: WOW …that’s all I can say. This routine was AMAZING in every way. To see Legacy dance like that … and Kathryn too. I have said it previously, Kathryn is going to be a force in this competition b/c she is damn good. And Legacy is just proving more and more how truly gifted he really is. I was honestly worried about him at first but he is just amazing. Wow … what a dance. Top 10 material right here!!

Dancers:Pauline and Peter
Dance: Jazz by Wade and Mrs. Robson to Little Green Bag
Judges’ Thoughts: (A)It worked. You did a great job. (M) You danced it really well but I don’t think it’s going to take you anywhere. (N) Peter be careful because your shoulders are very tight.
Amanda’s Thoughts: While this was a weird piece, I just loved it. Wade is such an interesting person and choreographer. I mean, it wasn’t mind blowing but it kept you interested and they danced it very well. I do agree that Peter’s shoulders are a bit tight but that is something he can fix. I really like him – especially for a tap dancer!! Pauline is good too … she just hasn’t grown on me yet.

Dancers: Ellenore and Ryan
Dance:Argentine Tango by Miriam and Leonardo to Violentango
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) Ellenore, you had a stillness and maturity and Ryan your partnering! (M) Ellenore I would not have guessed you are not an Argentine dancer. Ryan, you were totally there for her. The technique was outstanding. Woohooooo! (N) I don’t know another couple this season who could have shown us this dance any better.
Amanda’s Thoughts: Wow, what a routine!! First of all, I didn’t even notice her shoe stuck in her dress and even if I had, still wouldn’t have known it. Ellenore is an amazing dancer and I have loved her from day one. Ryan is a good dancer too, very strong, which helps with the tricks in the dances. Will be interesting to see what happens when he gets hip-hop or something though. I mean, it’s not that I don’t like him – I just think some of the other guys are better dancers.

And now ... they must choose two guys and two girls for the bottom four. They choose:

Noelle–Great solo! Really good dancer. Just hasn't had enough "face time" I don't think.
Victor–Wow, he is a very strong dancer!! Don't think it will be him.
Bianca–Just love Bianca ... but tap is so hard to understand for me. Her personality is amazing though and she seems to know what she is doing. Could be in trouble though.
Phillip–I love his smile! Great routine but he hasn't done that well in the past two dances he has had to do so I bet they will send him home.

And, I was right ... Bianca and Phillip on their way home. Both were very sad and it made me sad. But, I do think the right choices were made this week. Not going to be any easier next week, that's for sure!!

Until next time!

I think Ryan kind of looks like a stripper. I would totally not be surprised for him to show up one night in a police man outfit and slowly disrobe throughout the routine. Thoughts?

Ha!! I totally agree. Maybe a Fireman's outfit? He reminds me of a not-so-cute version of Hugh Jackman? His head is just too small for his huge shoulders ... not to mention his big forehead. Not really a fan if you can't tell. Although he can do lifts quite well :-)
